Iconic Zeiss Icon Nettar 515/2 Folding Camera 120 Roll Film Circa 1933-1949 THIS ZEISS ICON NETTAR 515/2 CAMERA IS A PIECE OF HISTORY MADE BY THE FAMOUS GERMAN COMPANY ZEISS THAT PERFECTED LENSES FOR EARLY CAMERAS. WITH ORIGINAL ZEISS LEATHER TRAVEL POUCH. THIS ZEISS IKON HAS A SERIAL NUMBER OF P41085* WHERE THE ASTERISK INDICATED IT WAS PRODUCED BY ZEISS IKON IN STUTTGART (CONTESSA WERK) IN THE FIRST YEARS (1945 TO 1949) AFTER THE SECOND WORLD WAR AND WERE PARTLY MADE OF PARTS FROM PRE MAY 1945 PRODUCTION WHICH WERE STILL LYING IN STORAGE. SITTING ON A SHELF THERE ARE FEW OTHER CAMERAS AS ATTRACTIVE TO LOOK AT. UNFOLDING IT AND FEEDING IT FILM IS WHERE THE REAL FUN BEGINS AND THIS CAMERA GIVES YOU THAT. Zeiss was producing the Ikon Nettar 515/2 from 1933 to 1949. Zeiss produced many different cameras that shot the 120 roll film and the 515/2 shot a 6X9cm which gives you 8 shots. It is a folding camera which means that it can fit in a large pocket. This was perfect for a world that was opening up to continental travel. People needed an easy to load roll shooter that they could carry with them and see the world. The Nettar filled that roll wonderfully. The camera is a zone focus camera, without a light meter so everything is manual. You press the shutter on the left side of the camera when taking a picture. The shutter button is mechanically attached to a lever the triggers the shutter on the lens. Loading film is down from the back and you hand wind the film after each shot. Everything with this camera is mechanical giving you full control of every shot you take. The mechanics are what you would expect from Zeiss and the Anastigmat 1:6,3 is a very nice lens. SIZE:155 x 80 x 42MMWEIGHT 650G CONDITION: GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION. FOLDS OPEN FREELY. CLOSES A BIT STIFFLY. HOOD HAS SOME MINOR DAMAGAE. SHUTTER STILL WORKS BUT NEEDS ATTENTION. COMES WITH A ORIGINAL ZEISS LEATHER BAG. MARKINGS: ZEISS IKON NETTAR 515/2 P41085*Sometimes a 5 point star or asterisk can be found in some Zeiss-Ikon folders which were produced by Zeiss Ikon in Stuttgart (Contessa Werk) in the first years (1945 to 1949) after the second world war AND were partly made of parts from pre May 1945 production which were still lying in storage. ZEISS (1846-present):Carl Zeiss opened an optics workshop in Jena in 1846. By 1847 he was making microscopes full-time. In 1861 the rapidly growing company had a staff of about 20 and won a gold medal at the Thuringian Industrial Exposition. By 1866 Zeiss sold their 1,000th microscope. After World War II Leica ended up on the Western side of the Berlin Wall but Zeiss was captured and taken to Russia. Yet Zeiss survived and they still produce some of the best lenses ever.
